Richard Paul Astley, born on February 6, 1966, in Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, is a celebrated English singer, songwriter, radio DJ, and podcaster. He rose to international prominence in the late 1980s through his collaboration with the acclaimed production team Stock Aitken Waterman. Astley’s debut album, *Whenever You Need Somebody*, released in 1987, achieved remarkable success, selling 15 million copies globally and earning Platinum certifications from both the BPI and the RIAA. His iconic debut single, "Never Gonna Give You Up," topped charts in over 25 countries and won the 1988 Brit Award for Best British Single, becoming the UK's best-selling single that year with a five-week reign at No. 1.

Following this success, Astley released *Hold Me in Your Arms* in 1988, which also received Platinum and Gold accolades.
