When Khalilou's mother suffers from cancer caused by skin-lightening products, he becomes determined to challenge harmful beauty ideals. To make a statement, he disguises himself as Leila and enters the "Miss Students" pageant, a competition that favors lighter skin tones, with the hope of giving dark-skinned girls an opportunity to be celebrated.
