Detective Montalbano delves into the murder of local businessman Lapecora. His widow believes that Lapecora's lover, Karima, a young woman from Tunisia who vanished on the day of the crime, is responsible. While searching for answers, Montalbano manages to find Karima's five-year-old son, Francois, which leads him to suspect a connection between Lapecora's murder and the death of another Tunisian man on the same day. Meanwhile, Montalbano's partner, Livia, who has taken Francois under her wing, grows increasingly fond of the little boy.
