After unintentionally taking a man's life in a bar, Jake, who is deaf and mute, flees. He finds refuge in Shiloh, where his determination earns him a job. Stacey notices Jake's struggle to communicate and decides to help him learn to read and write, but her good intentions inadvertently place him in jeopardy.
