Damon and Elena, with Bonnie and Kai’s assistance, devise a strategy to free Damon's mother, Lily, who is imprisoned in the 1903 prison world. At the same time, Caroline faces the fallout from her unsuccessful scheme involving Stefan. Over at Whitmore College, Enzo and Alaric try to win Caroline back but soon discover they're one step behind. In a surprising twist, Bonnie presents Damon with an unexpected gift that deeply unsettles him.
