As the Levy family becomes part of the wagon train, the peaceful atmosphere takes a turn. The fathers engage in intense checker matches, while the young boys squabble among themselves. Simultaneously, a budding romance develops between one of the sons and a daughter from another family. Tensions rise further when a local settler attempts to extort the train for permission to cross his land.
