Ambassadors (2013)

S1E1 The Rabbit Never Escapes

Oct 23, 2013 Season 1 Episode 1 Comedy

Keith Davis, the clumsy British ambassador in Tazbekistan, finds himself in a tricky situation in a country known for its poor human rights and its infamous dish, plov, which his pretentious wife, Jennifer, insists on trying. While attempting to secure a deal for British helicopters with the president, Keith makes a disastrous start by accidentally shooting the national animal, an ibex, but cleverly shifts the blame to the French ambassador. Meanwhile, his competent deputy, Neil Tilly, and assistant Caitlin focus on getting activist Simon Broughton released from prison. Neil faces blackmail from a local, who pressures him with compromising photos, yet Simon is eventually freed. To impress the president, Keith hosts a British-themed night complete with the pompous actor Stephen Pembridge performing a solo rendition of Frankenstein, Morris dancers, and a chutney-making demonstration. Ultimately, the helicopter contract is awarded to the French, who bring along a cabinet minister to emphasize its significance.
