After a comet unexpectedly shatters the moon into three pieces, top scientists scramble to determine how long it will be before the fragments collide with Earth. In the face of impending doom, everyone is determined to embrace life to the fullest. The Davis family is no exception; the father abandons them to scale the Alps, leaving them broke. Teenager Alex finds himself caught up in a romance with the charming neighbor, while Lydia accidentally sets the school gym ablaze while attempting to cast a spell to restore the moon. Meanwhile, Laura just wants to maintain some semblance of normalcy, and Mack, a local lawyer, struggles to persuade his mother that he has no interest in a six-month world cruise.
