The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1981)

Arthur Dent, an unremarkable man from Earth, is taken aback when he discovers bulldozers ready to demolish his home for a new by-pass. His day takes an even stranger turn at the pub when his best friend Ford Prefect discloses that he hails from a distant planet near Betelgeuse. Soon, they find themselves hitching a ride on a Vogon spaceship, just as Earth is obliterated to clear a path for an intergalactic bypass. The pair ends up confined in a storage area within hyperspace, accompanied only by an intimidating Vogon guard.
