In a rather misguided attempt to trick Pearl, Howard conjures up a fictional pest named the "stoneworm," showcasing that even the most foolish can have moments of creativity. To his surprise, the hoax takes on a life of its own, as townsfolk start to question whether their houses are plagued by this imaginary creature.
