Shing is thrust into peril on two distinct fronts: one stemming from Europe and the other from China. In Europe, the enigmatic 'red-haired, one-eared man' has seen him with the corpse of the white woman, putting Shing in jeopardy of being accused of her murder. Meanwhile, in China, Shing's position as headman becomes more precarious as Lei's true ambitions come to light, complicating Shing's authority and influence.
