S1E1 The Southbound Bus

Tess mentors Monica on her inaugural case worker assignment after her promotion from search and rescue. While on a southbound bus, she strikes up a friendship with David Morrow, a young boy grieving the loss of his mother and sister in a car accident. After helping him stand up to some bullies, Monica takes him home, where she meets his father, Nick, a police detective in need of a live-in nanny. Monica is quickly hired, but soon encounters Adam, the Angel of Death, who reveals that David's mother is alive, despite his belief that she abandoned him after Katie's crib death. Determined to reunite them, Monica leaves David in Tess's care and heads to Hewitt in search of his mother. At a rundown café, she befriends two waitresses, mistakenly thinking one is David's mom. She sets up a meeting between Ruth Ann and Nick, but it ends in disappointment when Nick’s job complicates matters.
