With Earp away, defying Kelley's orders to apprehend Blackie Saunders, Curly and Ringgold seize control of Dodge City. Their takeover leaves Kelley with no choice but to dismiss Earp and hand over a hefty ransom of $20,000 to prevent them from torching the town.
