As covert government facilities come under attack from enigmatic unseen entities, a team of spies is dispatched to uncover the truth. They discover that someone has trained a swarm of insects as part of a sinister plan to annihilate humanity. The only beings expected to survive are the bugs and their ruler, Max Exterminus, who has been enhancing himself with cockroach DNA. In his quest for a queen, Max kidnaps Alex. Meanwhile, Alex finds herself in a subplot where she begins a relationship with a brooding goth boy.
