Elaine MacKay, the president of the Ladies' Auxiliary and a part-time hospital administrator, tragically dies in a car crash at the Five Mile Bridge. The community struggles to come to terms with her death, and questions arise about her presence in a vehicle with her husband’s friend, Ian Sutton, as they were leaving town. Meanwhile, newcomers Molly and Brendan Jones make their entrance into the town.
