As Buzz and Sonya prepare for the high school's Homecoming dance, Vint reminds them that they both need to be home by midnight. They both grumble about the rule, especially Sonya, who questions why her curfew is the same as her younger brother's. Vint insists it’s because she’s a girl. Later, he gives Buzz the option to stay out an extra hour, infuriating Sonya, who storms off with her date, declaring she might not make it back on time. Vint, Mama, and Fran anxiously wait for Sonya's return. Buzz arrives home an hour before curfew, revealing that his date dumped him for a football player. Just as Vint starts to fret, Sonya bursts in, still angry, and yells at Vint before retreating to the kitchen. Mama follows her and learns that Sonya had to return home because her date also had a midnight curfew.
