In October 1969, the Supreme Court mandated the complete and immediate desegregation of schools, prompting Leland, Mississippi, to finally comply with the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education ruling. By the fall of 1970, a new chapter began as a group of children became the first to attend all 12 grades together, integrating Black and white students for the first time.
