Set during the flourishing Tang dynasty, a young man named Di Ren Jie travels to the capital to participate in an imperial examination. While taking the test, he courageously intervenes to thwart an assassination plot aimed at Empress Wu. Impressed by his valor and sharp instincts, the empress commissions him to look into the attempted murder, setting the stage for his involvement in court intrigue.
