On Michael's inaugural day as the Chief of Internal Medicine, Joan shows up at the hospital in critical condition. Amy, resolute in her efforts to help Joan, finds herself at odds with Richard over how to proceed with her treatment. At the same time, Gina faces a tough choice regarding a young patient's care, while Liz struggles to ensure that her accusations against Richard are acknowledged and addressed.
