Ephram starts to regret his promise to Nina about keeping an eye on Hannah at school, especially as her constant presence disrupts his time with Amy. Initially, Amy befriends Hannah out of pity, but she quickly discovers that Hannah’s vibrant personality leads to a genuine friendship. Meanwhile, Andy tries to brush off the growing tension between Dr. Abbott and Edna, but his indifference drives Edna to resign and join Dr. Hartman's practice instead. Andy also treats a 13-year-old patient (guest-starring Carter Jenkins) whose unexplained injuries prompt him to suspect the boy's mother (guest-starring Elizabeth Mitchell) of abuse.
