At the outset of World War II, the Japanese A6M Zero emerged as a formidable and terrifying aircraft, engineered for widespread devastation. With the Zero at the forefront, the Imperial Japanese Navy asserted its dominance across the Pacific, claiming victories from Pearl Harbor to Wake Island and the Philippines. To turn the tide of the war, the U.S. Navy realized they had to counter this swift and agile adversary. Their strategy involved capitalizing on the Zero's weaknesses by using the raw power of the F4U Corsair to level the playing field.
