The full extent of Mark's past in Belfast comes to light. He had a girlfriend, Siobhan Doyle, who was meant to join him but never arrived. Tragically, she passed away shortly after, and Mark was misled by his father into believing she died of tuberculosis. In truth, Siobhan died during childbirth, and Mark learns that they have a surviving daughter, a baby girl. Desperate to find her, he faces resistance from the nuns who refuse to share any information. Meanwhile, an accident involving the RMS Olympic compels him back to work, overshadowing his personal quest. As he navigates this, Pirrie and Andrews uncover Mark's Catholic background but choose to protect his secret.
