Julian Shepherd, heavily invested in Charles Edmonton's latest invention, is discovered drowned, leading to speculation that he took his own life over financial difficulties. Soon after, a local thief caught pilfering peregrine falcon eggs from Charles's widow turns up dead as well. Detectives Barnaby and Troy step in to unravel the mystery surrounding these two deaths and uncover the truth behind the troubling events plaguing the village.
