Tarrant formulates a plan to seize a Federation freighter transporting precious Kairopan crystal, but falls directly into Jarvik's cunning trap, resulting in the capture of the Liberator. Stranded on the perilous planet Kairos, the crew faces a dire fate, as no one has ever managed to survive beyond the brief harvest season of the crystal.
