Ben discovers an old journal he wrote during his wagon train journey from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Ash Hollow. As he flips through the pages, memories come flooding back of the adventure he shared with his wife, Inger, and young Adam. The trip is marked by the arrival of Hoss and challenges with a group of Native Americans along the way.
