Richard arrives in an embarrassing shirt that Julia made him wear, prompting Caroline to suggest he have an honest conversation with her about the sacrifices that come with marriage. As a result, Julia decides to walk away from him. In another storyline, Charlie feels frustrated that Del continues to see him as a subordinate rather than an equal partner. Meanwhile, Annie attempts to handle her joblessness by finally completing The Grapes of Wrath, a book she began reading back in eighth grade.
