Facing overwhelming pressure to succeed in Kingsfield's midterm, Jonathan resorts to a desperate act by hiring someone to pilfer a copy of the exam. He cunningly deceives his study group into thinking they have access to an outdated Kingsfield test, thereby making them unknowingly complicit in his dishonesty.
