S1E1 Meet the Lord

In 1856 Kansas, young Henry Shackleford, a slave, encounters the fervent abolitionist John Brown, who mistakenly thinks he’s a girl and liberates him. Seeing Henry as his lucky charm, Brown invites him to join his motley crew, giving him the nickname “Onion.” As Onion dons a dress for the first time while evading gunfire, he becomes acutely aware of the perilous reality surrounding the fight against slavery. He witnesses Brown's passionate and violent mission to eradicate slavery from the land, believing that drastic measures are essential to achieve freedom.
