Detective Sergeant Mattie Stone, recently promoted, returns to her hometown of Wildemarsh for her new assignment. Her superior makes it clear that she shouldn’t rely on her three aunts—Beth, Cat, and Jane—who are avid crime writers. However, when a murder occurs during the town's crime-writers' festival, Mattie finds it increasingly difficult to keep her enthusiastic relatives from getting involved in the case. Their determination to assist complicates her investigation as she navigates the challenges of both her professional duties and her family ties.
