Liz Moss, a grief counselor, is excelling in her role, and Paul Dangerfield, feeling upbeat, attempts to flirt with her at a gathering. However, Liz swiftly brushes him off before he can discover her relationship status. As Paul takes the stand as a key witness in a murder trial, he finds his objectivity challenged. Meanwhile, the stress of the case strains DI Dagley's camaraderie with his female colleague. Ironically, the outcome of the trial hinges on the defendant's mother, who is closely monitoring all developments.
