Moist von Lipwig, having spent years deceiving people, is finally apprehended by the guards and sentenced to death under the name Arthur Spangler. After a short time in prison, he is hanged but miraculously survives. Presented to Patrician Havelock Vetinari, Moist is given an ultimatum: either take on the role of the new Postmaster or face execution.
