His prolonged imprisonment takes an unexpected turn when he sees a newspaper article mentioning an artist's name, presenting a rare chance for escape. Seizing the moment, he travels to Manhattan to attend an auction featuring pieces by the artist mentioned in the article—a man who has been deceased for two decades.
