Nia and Brainy set out to rescue Supergirl from the Phantom Zone by traveling back to 2009, the year of Kara's childhood. Brainy is focused on retrieving the crucial item to aid Supergirl but is also anxious about maintaining a low profile to avoid disrupting the timeline. Their plans take a turn when their ship crashes upon arrival, and a young Kara Danvers is the first to respond. At the same time, an ambitious young reporter, Cat Grant, arrives in Midvale, convinced there's a significant story waiting to be uncovered in the quiet town.
