Peggy's accumulation of filth and decaying animal bodies in Illinois has resulted in city officials declaring her house unlivable. If she doesn’t take action to tidy up, she risks losing access to her cherished home. Meanwhile, Ed and Connie’s shared passion for Halloween decorations has spiraled into a severe hoarding issue. As their living conditions in Woods Cross, Utah deteriorate, Ed's teenage son has laid down a serious ultimatum: they must clean up, or he will leave with his younger autistic brother, even if it means fleeing from home.
