Detectives Goren and Eames delve into the murder of church sexton Morris Abernathy, only to discover their prime suspect, Kevin Donovan, has also been found dead in his home. The investigation takes a turn when they uncover that someone administered last rites to Donovan, indicating a priest's involvement in the crime. Their search leads them to a clergyman desperate to conceal a two-decade-old secret. Goren faces a dilemma, choosing to shield an innocent individual from potential ruin, even if it jeopardizes the prosecution's case.
