In 1908 London, Agnes Tower, an employee at Gamages department store, is on the brink of a major change after meeting Harry Gordon Selfridge. He is busy putting the final touches on his ambitious vision for the largest and most luxurious department store ever, set to open on Oxford Street. Meanwhile, his family arrives from Chicago. As news of the upcoming store launch circulates through the city, Agnes takes the initiative to ask Harry for a position. He recognizes her and offers her a job. The grand opening draws massive crowds, though the revenue falls short of expectations.
