Duncan attempts to win over his pen-pal Marie-Helene by trading places with Archie, stepping into the role of Laird for the day. Meanwhile, Archie, now the Head Keeper, faces the daunting task of impressing a health and safety inspector. Unfortunately, everything goes awry, and the inspector threatens to close down the estate. Devastated, Duncan learns that Marie-Helene is in love with someone else, but he helps her reunite with him. Meanwhile, Molly secures the estate's future by appealing to the inspector's nostalgia, recognizing him from a visit he made with his ex-wife years ago.
